# How to Add Knowledge to Your AI Agents

This guide explains how to find the Knowledge Base area, choose the right knowledge type (agent knowledge vs shared knowledge), and then upload documents or add website URLs to support your agents.

Your Knowledge Base helps your AI agents complete tasks more accurately by giving them trusted reference material. You can add knowledge in two ways: agent knowledge, which you assign to one or more specific agents for targeted, one-off or role-specific information, and shared knowledge, which is automatically available to all agents (including any agents you create in the future). Shared knowledge is best for long-lived, universal content such as brand guidelines, policies, and standard instructions.

- Log in to your account in the platform (this can’t be completed from Teams or Slack).
- Go to the left-hand navigation and select Knowledge Base.
- Choose where to add your knowledge:
  - Select Agent knowledge to assign documents or websites to one or more selected agents only.
  - Select Shared knowledge to add knowledge that is available to all agents, and is inherited by future agents by default.
## Step-by-step instructions

The knowledge base can be updated by either uploading documents or adding website URLs. Here’s how you can do it:

- Navigate to the Configure page on the platform.
- From the left-hand menu, select Knowledge Base.
### Uploading Documents

- Choose the Upload option if you wish to upload a document.
- You can upload files via Google Drive, Dropbox, or directly from your computer:
- Select the files you want to add to the knowledge base and wait for the upload to complete.
- If you chose agent knowledge, select the agent(s) who should have access to this knowledge.
### Adding Website URLs

- Select Add URL if you prefer to add a website.
- You can add a single webpage or multiple pages (up to 10 at a time).
- Enter the URL, select the agent you wish to assign it to, and click Next.
- If adding multiple webpages, the platform will automatically scrape your website after selecting Next.
- Choose the pages you want to include in the knowledge base.
- After selecting all desired pages, click Next.
- Your documents and webpages have now been added to your knowledge base.
### Viewing Knowledge Base Details

- You can view a list of all documents and website entries, including which agents have access to them, when they were added, and who added them.
### Adding Instant Knowledge

- Insights can also be added directly within the chat interface.
- Use the paperclip icon to attach files, such as key dates or reference material, to create content quickly.
- Note that this instant knowledge is available for immediate use but is not stored in the full knowledge base.

Keep these important limits in mind

- If you update a file in Google Drive or Dropbox, you’ll need to re-upload it for changes to take effect.
- Maximum file size: 512 MB.

## Common issues

| Issue | Possible Cause | Suggested Solution |
| --- | --- | --- |
| I can’t find “Knowledge Base” | You’re not in the main platform interface, or you’re looking in the wrong menu | Use the left-hand navigation in the platform and select Knowledge Base (not within Teams/Slack). |
| My knowledge is available to every agent (but I only wanted one agent to use it) | It was added to shared knowledge instead of agent knowledge | Add the item under agent knowledge and assign it to only the required agent(s). Consider removing or replacing the shared entry if needed. |
| A new agent doesn’t have the knowledge I expected | The knowledge was added to agent knowledge, not shared knowledge | Add the content to shared knowledge if it should apply to all agents and future agents by default. |
| Unable to upload document | File format not supported, or file is too large | Confirm the file type is supported (for example, PDF) and that it is under 512 MB. |
| URL not adding to knowledge base | Incorrect URL format or the site blocks scraping | Double-check the URL and ensure the page is publicly accessible. Try adding a single page first. |
| Instant knowledge isn’t available later | Instant knowledge in chat isn’t saved into the full Knowledge Base | Add the document/URL via Knowledge Base if it needs to be stored and reused. |

By following these steps, you can effectively add knowledge to your AI agents, enabling them to perform tasks with greater accuracy and efficiency. This process is essential for tailoring your AI to meet your business needs and enhance its operational capabilities.
